"I was introduced to Crossfit in 2005 by my partner JeffT and I was instantly hooked. I used to be one of those “gym rats” that spent hours in the gym. I thought I was in pretty good shape, but my first WOD proved me wron g… and once I got the taste of that intensity, I couldn’t go back to the globo gym….I only wish I had found Crossfit 10 years ago! The fitness gains and improvements I have made during the past couple of years have been tremendous. Crossfit has definitely made me a better athlete. I love training and sharing my knowledge. But the satisfaction of knowing that I’m helping others get fit and healthier is what motivates every day! I look forward to sharing my experience as a Crossfit athlete and affiliate owner with others."

Jeff Tincher - Head Coach

Jeff T. is the co- founder of CrossFit Fairfax and a Head Trainer at CrossFit Reston.  Jeff is CF Level 1 & 2 Trainer and a member of CrossFit HQ Traveling Level I Certification Course Training Staff. Jeff has been a personal trainer for over 8 years and been doing CrossFit workouts since January 2005. Jeff has competed in the 2008 and 2009 CrossFit Games, placing 5th overall in the Men's category (out of 196 male athletes) in 2008. He is also the "mastermind" behind all CrossFit Fairfax and CrossFit Reston WODs! Jeff is a full-time Firefighter for Fairfax County Fire & Rescue. He was a member of the Fire Departments Peer Fitness Trainers until becoming aggravated with their archaic views on what Fitness is and their lack of willingness to change. He hopes one day that Fairfax Fire will join the other Fire Departments around the world and convert their PT program to CrossFit also. The injury rate for long distance running (a staple of the Fairfax Fire's PT Program) far exceeds the injury rate of CrossFit.

"Ignorance and the unwillingness to learn the movements correctly is dangerous - not CrossFit. These movements are how our bodies were designed to function. When was the last time you had to do a Lateral Raise in a real life situation? Never is the answer. When was the last time you did a deadlift or squat in a real life situation? Everyday is the answer (try getting out of a chair, off the toilet, or picking something up without squatting or dead lifting). If you can't do a full range of motion squat (crease of hip coming below the knee, weight on heels, knees tracking over the feet, with an upright torso) - you are broken and on a one way path to ending up in a Nursing Home."

Mike Rothgeb - Level II Trainer

Mike is a Level 2 Crossfit trainer, Crossfit Olympic weightlifting, Crossfit Basic Barbell, CrossFit Kettlebell & Crossfit Gymnastics certified coach. Mike comes with 9 years of boxing and coaching experience.

He started Crossfitting back in April 2007 and has been hooked ever since. Mike has been a trainer at our sister affiliate Crossfit Fairfax since October 2007. Outside the gym he works at George Mason University as a System Engineer.

“The constant challenges have given me physical and mental strength that I find useful inside and outside of the gym. The best part of being a trainer is watching clients grow and doing things that they never thought possible.”

Mike Vorgang - Level I Trainer

Mike has been a Level 1 CF trainer since July 2007 and is a former coach at CrossFit Quantico. He came to CrossFit Fairfax in June 2009 after serving for eight years as a United States Marine Corps Infantry Officer. He has been coaching at CrossFit Reston since it opened.

Finding CrossFit through the Marine Corps, Mike instantly became hooked on the intensity of the workouts. After using CrossFit as his primaru means of physical training for six months, he went on his final deployment to Iraq where he noticed a huge increase in his physical capacity. His ability to carry heavy weight for longer distances, quicker, and without feeling fatigued had increased exponentially. He quickly came to the realization that nothing could prepare him better for the rigors of combat than CrossFit, and became an avid athlete and coach.

Gretchen Kittelberger - Level I Trainer

I have been an athlete all my life. Growing up in Rochester, NY I competed nationally in gymnastics all the way through high school, eventually earning a college scholarship to compete in the sport for the University of Maryland. I competed for Maryland for four years and graduated in 2008. After graduation, I retired from the sport of gymnastics and moved to Charlottesville, Va to attend law school at the University of Virginia.

My first semester of law school was the first time in my life where I wasn’t training for a sport, and I felt lost without some sort of athletic pursuit to put my efforts toward. In January of 2009 a friend suggested that I try CrossFit. I got my first taste of CrossFit competition that winter, and I was hooked. I decided to make it my goal to train and make it to the CrossFit Games. I fell short in 2010, finishing 5th in my regional and missing the cut.Motivated to train harder for 2011, I worked on my weaknesses, finished 2nd in the MidAtlantic Regional and qualified to the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games, where I finished 12th in the world. I'm now excited to be a part of the CrossFit Reston family and being able to train with and learn from some of the best CrossFitters in the world.

Mehdi El-Amine - Level I Trainer

Mehdi is a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer, Crossfit Kettlebell, Crossfit Mobility, CF Kids and USAW certified coach. He has been a crossfit athlete since February 2009 and a coach at Reston since October 2010. Mehdi’s previous attempts at fitness included the standard bodybuilding and “cardio” routines along with the occasional basketball pickup games. Even though he was always educating himself about nutrition and health and different bodybuilding methods, he felt that what he had achieved could not be called fitness and he started looking elsewhere. He found Crossfit through a friend and has been totally consumed by it ever since.

Mehdi’s favorite thing about Crossfit is that it restores the body’s long lost natural functions. Years of sitting down silently lead us to disease. Crossfit can give us our health back.
